CHILD THERAPY

Child therapy focuses on the social well-being and emotional development of the child. At times, children need to be guided in building a strong sense of self, emotional strengths, and communication. Children often have difficulty expressing their thoughts and feelings, so the therapist is simply a guide to his or her emotional development. This can be achieved in one-on-one sessions. Sessions will begin by building a trusting and open relationship to communicate with the child.  After building this trust, the dynamic of these sessions may include (but are not limited to) guided play, directive activities, and books with a main purpose or specified topic.

Some goals that a therapist will keep in mind are:

  • Improving communication
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Increase emotional vocabulary
  • Refining behavior management
